Comprehensive Adult ADHD Evaluations

Comprehensive Adult ADHD Evaluations in Murfreesboro, TN

Understanding whether ADHD may be part of your experience

Have you spent years trying to understand challenges with attention, organization, procrastination, time management, motivation, or follow-through?

Sometimes these challenges have been present since childhood but were overlooked or attributed to something else. For others, difficulties become more noticeable as the demands of work, relationships, parenting, or adult life increase.

A comprehensive ADHD evaluation can help clarify what may be contributing to these difficulties and provide a better understanding of your strengths and challenges.

Comprehensive ADHD assessment for adults

I provide comprehensive psychological evaluations for adults who are seeking clarification about possible ADHD.

An evaluation considers your individual history and current functioning rather than relying on a single questionnaire or checklist. The assessment process may include:

  • Initial clinical interview

  • Developmental/childhood history

  • ADHD symptom assessment

  • Assessment of functional impairment

  • Evaluation of relevant differential diagnoses

  • Standardized assessment measures

  • Review of relevant records/collateral information

  • Diagnostic integration

  • Written evaluation report

  • Results/feedback session

  • Individualized recommendations

The goal is to develop a thoughtful understanding of your experiences and determine whether the available information is consistent with ADHD.

Why a comprehensive evaluation matters

Difficulty concentrating or staying organized does not necessarily mean that someone has ADHD. Similar experiences can occur for many different reasons, including anxiety, depression, sleep difficulties, stress, medical conditions, or other psychological concerns.

A comprehensive evaluation considers these possibilities rather than assuming that ADHD is the explanation.

The evaluation process is therefore not simply about answering "yes" or "no" to the question of ADHD. It is an opportunity to better understand the factors contributing to your current difficulties.

What to expect

The evaluation process is collaborative and individualized. We will begin by discussing what has led you to seek an evaluation and the concerns you are experiencing in your daily life.

Depending on your individual circumstances, the evaluation may involve more than one appointment. You will have an opportunity to discuss your history, complete appropriate assessment measures, and ask questions throughout the process.

At the conclusion of the evaluation, we will discuss the findings and recommendations. When appropriate, recommendations may include strategies for managing areas of difficulty and suggestions for additional treatment or support.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does an adult ADHD evaluation involve?

    • A comprehensive ADHD evaluation starts with an initial session during which we discuss your history, current symptoms, and functional impairment. I will administer any relevant standardized measures during this session. I may also give you some additional materials to complete prior to the visit or request you bring in additional materials if appropriate.

  • How long does an ADHD evaluation take?

    • The initial evaluation takes approximately 90 minutes. It will be followed by a 60-minute feedback session after I have completed the review of relevant records, assessment interpretation, diagnostic integration, and written report.

  • Can I be evaluated for ADHD as an adult if I wasn't diagnosed as a child?

    • Absolutely! Many adults did not receive a diagnosis in childhood but displayed characteristic symptoms. This is why we will discuss your history and childhood symptoms as part of the initial evaluation.

  • What happens after the evaluation?

    • At the end of the initial evaluation, we will schedule a follow-up feedback session for approximately 2-3 weeks in the future. This will give me time to complete the remainder of the comprehensive evaluation prior to the feedback session.

  • Do you provide documentation or recommendations following an evaluation?

    • Yes. I will provide a written report of the findings as well as individualized recommendations.

  • Do you accept insurance for ADHD evaluations?

    • Unfortunately, I do not accept insurance for the comprehensive ADHD evaluations. These are an out-of-pocket cost that you may be able to claim with your HSA plan. Comprehensive adult ADHD evaluation fees are $1200; $300 due at scheduling and the remaining $900 due at the initial evaluation appointment.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

    • I require 48 hours notice prior to the appointment. A full refund of the $300 deposit will be given up until the 48 hours prior to the appointment.
